Reel Women Hat

Just wanted to say thanks to Tressa for a great day on the Snake River last Sunday. It was beautiful and she was very helpful to Pat and me and was a pleasure to be with. If we ever get back to that area and want to do some more fishing, we will be sure to give you a ring.

Thanks again,
Charlie & Pat Wheeler
Snake River float trip ~ Oct. 2006

Hello Tim,

Things are settling a bit after our return so, I thought I'd take a moment to pass along a photo or two. Also would like to say thanks again for a very enjoyable trip down the South Fork section we drifted. Paula and I enjoyed the hospitality and your tireless efforts to coach her casting skills. Hope to see you next season for additional time on the water and look forward to learning more about the subtle nature of trout fishing.

Kind Regards, Carl Swanson

Kim...

Ron and I had a wonderful time and Jen was just nothing short of outstanding... She was a great sport and her fishing skills were second to none... Can't really say that about Ron and I, but hers are first rate. All of my fly fishing has been done with guides and Jen did great!  If ever I get the opportunity to come back, I would like to fish with her again and Reel Women. I would have no trouble recommending Reel Women to anyone who wants a great fishing experience!

Thanks, Tim Whitehead

Learning On the Fly
(A Poem by Tom Frame)

We all are friends of Patterson’s
Who suggested to us and his sons
To go on a trip
And fish a bit
And listen to the worst of his puns.

He booked us with the Reel Women
Tim, Tressa, Leslie and Jen
We began in the rain
Clearly insane
But hell, aren’t we fishermen?

The weather raged for a time
But as if sent as a heavenly sign.
Fish started to bite
And put up a fight
The rest of the float was sublime.

We stopped to camp for the night
In the cold but awesome starlight.
Warmed in good part
By Glen’s Maker’s Mark
Who lamented the end was in sight.

On day two the guides were quite clear
Their fish were distinctly without peer.
They always sleep in
To precisely at ten
From good breeding and clear lack of fear.

Every night someone would whine
That the fish at the end of his line
Was the size of a whale
(According to his tale)
Which grew bigger with each glass of wine.

Mark had the style, Glen had the booze
Pat had the smile and David’s jokes ooze.
Jerry taught me
How fishing should be
Rob and Chris chased a little Grey Goose.

All in all the experience was rare
Fishing in the crisp autumn air.
Not a denial is hear
It wouldn’t have occurred
Without Pat and his great sense of flare.

Tom Frame - Patterson Trip Sept. 21-23, 2005

I picked the right kind of 40th birthday bash, and I thank you all for helping make it fun for all of us. We had a wonderful time in your incredibly beautiful stretch of heaven. I think we were a more challenging group than I anticipated, and I think all three of your excellent guides were up to the task. Leslie taught me more about fishing in two days than I've learned in 40 years, and all reports are that Brad and Lynnae provided similar experiences in their boats. Hopefully I'll be back! Thanks!

South Fork Overnight Trip - 2004

What a fantastic day my father and I had fishing on the 15th. Jennifer was fantastic! She untangled our lines, helped me with my very rusty casting, educated us on the area and fishing hatches, and was just a pleasant and fun person to be around and talk with.

I had to push and prod and pull out all the tricks in my bag to get my dad to come out here. He kept saying he was too old and that it wouldn't be fun to fish with him anymore and on and on. Well he didn't even sleep in the car on the drive back to Idaho Falls after our day on the river because he was too excited about the trip. At dinner that night he didn't stop talking about how great the trip was and how perfect Jennifer was as a guide. And then the big surprise came, he actually said he would pay for next year's trip and maybe we would take two boats so that my husband and stepmother could come along! Next year's trip! What an amazing turn around.

Thank you for putting the fishing bug back into my dad. He now says he is too old to walk the banks but he can still fish from a boat. I will continually remind him about next year's trip and maybe upgrade his thoughts to the Jackson Hole Sampler or something a little longer.

Thank you again, you guys work miracles!

Dear Lori-Ann,

We are both still raving to our friends about how much we enjoyed our trip. Every single one of you at Reel Women made us feel like VIP's. We will never forget the experience. Sarah and I are pretty close to begin with, but this trip was a wonderful way for us to get away from our "normal" but hectic lives and spend time together.

I put my "Reel Women Fly Fish" license plate holder on my Mini-Cooper the day after we got home. I'm hooked! I hope to come back again soon, so keep me on your mailing list.

Thank you so much for everything.

Mary Lytle, Spa/Fishing Trip - June 2004

What a really nice note, Lori Ann! I am also reading it on my birthday, which is always a day of relection about what is important in my life. The trip with Reel Women is one of those important things for me to do for myself. I met some really exquisite women and loved the little time I had with each of them. Spending time with my daughter is always a blessing. I even liked fishing, a whole new experience for me. I will definitely be back, and may go on one of the trips that combines horseback riding and fishing. I may even bring a friend or two, as they are hearing from me how special this group of women are. So, keep my newsletters coming and I will see you again. You draw very impressive sisters to you.
Have a good summer,

What a nice note. I too think of you often and of the wonderful time I had.
Here's my summary of the trip:

Not being a fly fisherman was the problem. I had always wanted to try it, but felt a bit intimidated by it... could I throw that line out there like a pro? Well, I thought, if I never tried guess I would never know. So... when I saw that I could try fly fishing along with a spa treatment...well that was right up my alley. Spa I could do...fly fishing we would see... Well... I did it!!! And what an experience! One I will never forget. Not only was the scenery second to none, the fly fishing guides and the spa personnel were just fabulous. Your every desire was tended to. While I don't think I'll ever be able to throw the line like the pro women guides I fished with, (Lori-Ann and Tessa) I will sure treasure my experience, and will definitely go back for more.
Just try it... you'll love it... I promise.

September, 2003

I had an excellent time with Tressa on 9/24 on the South Fork. It was a gorgeous western day - perfect blue sky, and the cottonwoods were in their beautiful fall color. I think we only saw three other boats on the river. Threw streamers all day and caught several beauties - the biggest being a fat and healthy 19+" yellowstone cutthroat with an 11" girth. Tressa said it was one of the nicest fish she'd seen in a long time. The fish of a lifetime for me!!

Again thanks and especially "thank you Tressa!!" for such a memorable day. It was very, very special. Hope to be back soon.

We just wanted to thank you for the great flyfishing experience we had on the Henry's Fork on June 13th. Our guide, Leslie, was the best, and both of us enjoyed ourselves immensely!

Thanks again.

Dear Leslie,

The Fowlers and the LaBonges were reliving our trip down the Snake River the other night. We all agreed it was the best fishing trip we have ever taken! I started to think about the big Brown that I caught, and I wondered about the pictures you took. If they are available, I would love to have copies. I do not get to catch fish like that very often. I hope all is well with you and that you had a great season. We are planning to return in 2004.

Sincerely,
Richard LaBonge

Dear Lori-Ann, Gary, Kim and Gang~

I just wanted to say thank you all for such a wonderful experience. I have actually been putting my newly gained knowledge to use.

Thanks to Gary's recommendation, I landed a great job at Lone Mt. Ranch in Big Sky. I have guided about five trips now, both walk wade and float trips. All have been successful experiences. I continue to be amazed by how much my knowledge and confidence levels increase with each trip. I love meeting new people and sharing what I know with them. It is so great when you can help someone gain a new appreciation or even passion for fishing or nature in general. A bunch of the clients that I have taken out have never even held a fly rod before, let alone seen spectacular rivers like those in MT. I think the most rewarding aspect of guiding is that I get to be a part of and am in a sense a facilitator of people's excitement and positive experiences.

Some of the other crusty old guides that I have been introduced to say that guiding isn't all it's cracked up to be because you have to baby-sit others and don't actually get to fish yourself. I don't agree at all. I find that I actually feed off of the clients energy and excitement.

I think that sometimes they forget that clients are what allow them to live the kind of lifestyle that they do. Not may people can say that their office is a river. All of the information you taught us in guide school was very pertinent and essential. However, what stuck with me the most and has been a complete savior is what you told us about the big picture. I have found that it is very important to remember that it isn't all about the fish. People have a much more positive experience and learn to respect their environment more when I show them the little things like stonefly nymphs under a rock or an eagle nest.

Guiding has also opened my eyes to the threatening conditions that our rivers are facing. There are way too many people on the rivers which means that the rivers, now more than ever, need people to advocate proper environmental and fishing ethics. I think that guides have a responsibility to take the role of educator very seriously. Well, I hope that you are all doing great and are enjoying the summer. I recommended the school to a bunch of people. I think every to-be guide should go to Reel-women guide school. I can't tell you how much it has helped me out.

Thank you. Keep in touch,
Liz Beno
