Reel Women Guide School

Lori-Ann Murphy

Lori-Ann co-founded Reel Women Fly Fishing Adventures in 1992, the first company to offer “women only” trips all over the world. Since then, Reel Women has grown to include: women and men guided float trips, coed guide schools, basic fly fishing schools, casting clinics, & destination trips for everyone.

She was the first woman to become an Orvis-endorsed fly fishing guide in 1989, and has served as a consultant to several tackle companies in the fly fishing industry. She is currently on the Pro Staff for Scientific Angler’s Products and ClackaCraft drift boats. Lori-Ann has a distinct love for fly-casting and was honored to win “The Best of the West” ISE Casting Competition in 2003. Her enthusiasm and dedication to our sport is unparalleled and guaranteed to be contagious for everyone around her.

Lori-Ann’s home waters are located in southwestern Montana, and the Snake River in Idaho and Wyoming near Jackson Hole. When she is not fishing or guiding on the river, Lori-Ann can be found giving presentations at sport shows and fly fishing clubs around the United States.

The OLN (Outdoor Life Network) Fly Fishing Master’s was held in July, 2007. Lori-Ann was on the winning team, Team Under Armour! Lori-Ann has been prominently featured in: The New York Times, CNN's Impact, Outside Magazine, ESPN and Martha Stewart Living. She worked as the fly fishing consultant for Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon in the movie The River Wild.

Her greatest accomplishment however, is working with The Reel Women Guide Team and spending time with people who love to experience nature through fly fishing!

I don’t know exactly how long that moment is just before a fish inhales a fly. Sometimes it seems to last an eternity, and other times, a fraction of a second. Yes, there are hundreds of reasons why I fly fish… to be outdoors, to discover new waters, to experiment with new casts or flies… but for me, the instant before a tarpon annihilates a fly or the time it takes for a cutthroat to rise from the river bottom to sip a dry off of the surface is unparalleled. This is when everything comes together and I feel most connected to my tackle, the fish and the outdoors. This moment is the essence of fly fishing. Sometimes it is enjoyed in solitude, but often it is shared with a fishing companion or companions. I always look forward to fishing with my friends. Chasing adventure, swapping stories, laughing passionately. I have met the most important and influential people in my life through fly fishing.  I need these people and their friendships just as much as I need that moment, and I cannot imagine who or what I would be without both of them.
